LightDM GTK+ Greeter Query (solved)
« on: October 10, 2016, 09:58:43 am »
[symptom]

My LightDM GTK+ Greeter is set to display image 1 and Desktop is set to display image 2 as a background.
Prior to logging in at startup, image 1 displays for a brief two or three seconds, then defaults to image 2.

Is this supposed to happen prior to log in?

Is there a method/command to delay the display of image 2 until after login is successful?

IIRC the image changed after a log in on PM5.  :-\

TIA

To help us help you, ALL new requests for technical support should include basic system information.

If you haven't already done so, please open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run the following command:
Code: [Select]
inxi -Fz
then copy what was returned in the terminal and post it back here.

This was an automated response but please don't ignore it, providing this information now is highly likely to save time for both you and any prospective respondents and aid in the diagnosis of your problem  .. Thanks in advance :)

Set the login screen background manually in

menu > System Tools > LightDM GTK+ Greeter settings > Appearance (tab)

Select "Image", then browser to your image.

The CLI method would be to edit the:
Code: [Select]
background=/usr/share/peppermint/wallpapers/Dawn_(image_by_Ray_Bilcliff).jpg
line in
Code: [Select]
sudo pluma /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf
to point at your image.

ok.. think you may have mis-understood, my faux pas  :-[

What I'm after is..image 1 to change to image 2 after successful log in only.
If log in not successful, image 1 remains.

As it is, the image changes after 2-3 seconds from image 1 to image 2 irrespective of log in or not. ???

You're going to have to explain that a little better....

By default Peppermint changes the login screen background to the wallpaper of the selected user

BUT...

Because we have to set a default
Code: [Select]
background=/usr/share/peppermint/wallpapers/Dawn_(image_by_Ray_Bilcliff).jpg
it normally show the default "Dawn" image for a second or so before displaying the users wallpaper as the background.

The only way to stop that slight pause is to change the default to the same background you want .. but then other users will have YOUR image for a little pause.

Hope that made sense.

it normally show the default "Dawn" image for a second or so before displaying the users wallpaper as the background.

ok, so it's not possible to have a static image 1 displayed until a successful log in before showing the desktop image 2?

What's the point of having something that displays a different image for 2-3 seconds?  :-\

[ok a workaround is just a color opposed to an image for 2-3 seconds in LightDM GTK+ Greeter.]  ::)

it's down to the way accountsservices works to autoset the wallpaper/greeter background by account.

it MAY be that removing accountsservice would minimise the time taken to switch from the greeter background to the wallpaper, but it if you have different images it has to make the change at some stage doesn't it ;)

Also BE AWARE, uninstalling accountsservice will also take the language selector with it .. because they depend on each other .. so attempt this at your own risk ;)
