If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs then you're not quite grasping the situation

Cache firefox to ram, much quicker and minimises writes to SSD.  ;)
Within about:config
1) Type: browser.cache.disk.enable  set it 'False'
2) Type: browser.cache.memory.enable set to 'False'
3)Create new Integer and call it 'disk.cache.memory.capacity' then set value of ram to be allocated to firefox. i.e. 131072 for 128mb or 262144 for 256mb of RAM

Warning: by doing this you have no firefox history upon browser close.(which may be a good thing or not)

@acer

How is that more often if the default is 15000 (15 seconds) between backups and you extend that to 60000 (60 seconds) ?

Modern SSD's are well capable of outlasting an HDD if you over-provision .. so this article is really based on an outdated premise from the get-go.

With that in mind, weigh up the advantages of recovery against the miniscule daily cost of running an SSD

Also consider that SSD's are now that cheap that you'll likely save more in electricity against running a mechanical HDD over its life, that even if it only had half the life of an HDD (which it doesn't) you'd probably still be better off financially. ;)

The days of needing to be careful with writes to an SSD are behind us, and even if they weren't you're MUCH more likely to have an HDD die on you early through physical damage, than an SSD die unexpectedly and suddenly.

HDD's have only a single benefit nowadays .. capacity.

Personally I'd rather have the safety net of frequent recovery backups, than try too extend the already long life of a modern SSD at the expense of everyday usability .. but maybe that's just me :)

So, I'm about halfway through the article when I'm like, "Why am I reading this?  I have an old style HDD."  But, I finished it anyway.  Filed away for the future, and all that.  (yeah right, I'm likely to forget all about it in five minutes)

We've SpecSavers here in Amsterdam too.  They've another one call Eye Wish, that sends me into fits of giggles.  When they're advertised on the TV, the Dutch accent makes it sound like they're saying Irish.  For some reason I always get the mental image of river dancing optometrists dressed up like leprechauns :)).
