XFCE4 Panel Menu issue [Solved]
« on: September 12, 2016, 09:11:57 am »
Is there any way to remove a blank panel from the XFCE4 menu in peppermint 7?

it's my Menu>Internet>

Within Intenet> there is Firefox and a blank panel which when presses shows a warning within a box:

Failed to execute command "ice-firefox http://".
Failed to execute child process "ice-firefox" (No such file or directory)

I removed Ice from the software Centre and this has recently shown up

there doesn't seem to be a provision for uploading small jpegs from my PC that I can find on the forum, which would probably make things easier..how do you do this?
TIA

To display images on this forum you need to upload them to somewhere like
http://imgur.com
then post a link to them surrounded by IMG tags.

GNULINUX wrote a great tutorial here:
https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,4036.0.html

The easiest method would have been to use ICE to remove all the SSB's before having uninstalled it.

Can I also add that removing ICE without having first used it to remove any SSB's saved you all of a few Kb .. it's only 2 small python scripts .. but it's your system :)

Anyway, can you also post the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.local/share/applications
and
Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.local/share/ice
and
Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.local/share/ice/firefox

Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.local/share/applications
.         galculator.desktop              userapp-Firefox-TW9JNY.desktop
..        mimeinfo.cache
.desktop  userapp-Firefox-23BTNY.desktop

Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.local/share/ice
ls: cannot access '/home/xxxxxx/.local/share/ice': No such file or directory

Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.local/share/ice/firefox
ls: cannot access '/home/xxxxxx/.local/share/ice/firefox': No such file or directory

Was looking for some sort of config file but gave up.. :-[

Okay let's try moving these 3 launchers to your desktop, checking between each move if the menu item disappeared
Code: [Select]
mv -v ~/.local/share/applications/.desktop ~/Desktop/
and
Code: [Select]
mv -v ~/.local/share/applications/userapp-Firefox-23BTNY.desktop ~/Desktop/
and
Code: [Select]
mv -v ~/.local/share/applications/userapp-Firefox-TW9JNY.desktop ~/Desktop/
when the icon disappears from the menu .. feel free to delete the launcher from your desktop

 :) success!

Initially I was about to re-install ice from the software centre so I could fix it myself (redo and undo)but, when I read what it contained, I put the brakes on!
Its the version which contains chromium and not firefox as per PM7 so got stumped after that.

Karma for you sir!  ;)

Okay that's confusing....

If you're running Peppermint 7 the version of ICE in the software manager (or synaptic) should be 5.2.1 which supports chromium/chrome/firefox .. it should say so in the description:-

Quote from: ice package description
Front end for building single site browsers using Chromium, Chrome, or Firefox as a backend, allowing custom menu integration.

are you getting offered a different version ?

Anyway, glad it's solved now :)
