Gray screen when watching videos [SOLVED]
« on: August 22, 2016, 02:00:27 am »
Until now i've watched small length videos (20-30 min) and i didn't notice any problem. But when i watched 2h movie, from time to time i had this screen. At first it was full gray, and after the character started to move, step by step it came back to normal.

I had some problems in game, and i searched "amd driver" in this forum. I have found this topic: https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,3805.msg38381.html#msg38381 and it was a real improvement in game. But the gray screen problem i had it before, it's just i didn't stay more time to watch videos. Except that tip from that topic, i didn't installed any video drivers.

Hi avicola

This won't be a very technical answer but it might help.  If you're using VLC, try different deinterlace modes to see if that helps.

Failing that I use SMPlayer (available in the Repos) instead and have far fewer occurrences as you describe. Yes they will occur from time to time, I do not believe it is possible to eradicate them fully.

Yes, i am using VLC. I followed your advice and changed Deinterlace into ON and Mode into Film NTSC (IVTC). I watched a 2h movie without any problems. I know that amd users have some problems with video drivers in linux, and maybe we'll have better drivers in the future. But now my problem was with VLC and i think i can mark this topic as SOLVED.  Here is a picture with my video settings for future newbs like me :D. Thank you!
