Lightweight Linux distros
« on: July 04, 2017, 05:00:17 pm »
We just finished compiling a list of the best lightweight Linux distros and included Peppermint in the list https://thishosting.rocks/best-lightweight-linux-distros/#peppermint

Any other recommendations? What do you use on your old hardware?

Nice page !  Thx for the mention ...

What do you use on your old hardware?

My oldest machine is a Kaypro PC.  It's powered by DR-DOS.  Dittos for my (original) Compaq Portables.

I also own a IBM PS/1 desktop machine, running OS/2 Warp. LoL !  ;D

And, believe it or not, I still maintain a doorstop Win 98SE box (Cyrix CPU) as a proxy server.

Oh, yeah, and then there's my emachine etower with a 667MHz Celeron - Puppy Linux 4.2

I wouldn't recommend any of these OSs to anyone, but ... you asked.   8)

@thra, That's a fantastic list, happy to see WattOS there. That would have been my suggestion.
It works great on my old Toshiba NB505 netbook.

WattOS has for some time been my second favourite LXDE distro :) .. it's now probably my favourite "purer" LXDE experience .. I'm quite surprised it doesn't get more attention.

I used antiX for a long time and never found anything it wouldn't run on.  I paired it with fluxbox....great combo!   :)

Well, slax latest release is from 2013... and I would include void linux in that list. I have Peppermint on my main PC and Void on an old one.
