Another update and the last. Earlier, I thought Peppermint 9 solved my original post. As it turned out it did not. When 9 started acting like 8r I was beside myself. What the heck is going on. I have figured out over these past months that booting up on this machine with this hardware setup just doesn't like cool ambient temperatures of around 50 degrees F. (10C.)  I noticed that the issue showed up again during the same months as the original post. So,because rebooting would work every time I thought I would try and delay the boot in the bios leaving the POST screen on for 20 seconds or so. It worked. Default on the POST screen was 1 second. No other computer that I store at that temperature acts like this machine. So all this is hardware related and why it's happening I'll never know.
A little knowledge is dangerous, I'm proof of it.
