Update... I hope this helps people looking at this thread as well.

I found this thread on reddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/VPN/comments/34ueji/linux_vpn_with_kill_switch_and_dns_leak_prevention/

Was hoping you guys could decipher some of what they are saying above.

Are they saying not to use a VPN service? and to use openVPN GUI with the code mentioned and implementing the UFW?
If so, is it safe to do so in regards to not wanting to use the unsecure PPTP.

Still really new to all this.

You guys have been great.

Actually, I liken coming onto this forum (after finding the great Peppermint OS) to walking into a 4th year engineering class at university and asking a 1st year question, while the 4th year students are just sitting their shaking their heads...lol
Now I know how my Grandfather felt (when he got on "This internet thingy") when he asked me what a right click on the mouse does...  >:(

Haxors, blackhats, and government agencies love winders !

I'll have to hand it to Apple, on this.  They evidently don't put backdoors in their OSs -- at least, not on their dumb phones.

winders users are soooo screwed on this 'accidental' release of the MS backdoor key(s) !!!   :D

I thought I'd read it doesn't affect x86 versions of Windows .. only pre "Anniversary Edition" versions of RT (?)

News releases vary on this, but ...

Quote
The keys leaked by Microsoft will allow users with admin rights to install any operating system -- like Linux or Android -- on their Windows PCs, smartphones, or tablets.

Secure Boot works at the firmware level, and is designed only to allow an operating system signed with a key certified by Microsoft to load. It can be disabled on many desktops, but on most other Windows devices, it's hard-coded in. The golden key policy seems to have been designed for internal debugging purposes, to allow OS signature checks to be disabled, apparently so programmers can test new builds. In practice, it could well open up Microsoft's tablets and phones to serious attacks.

I'm currently more inclined to believe what Matthew Garrett says than random 'news' sites that just appear to be repeating each other with little to no technical detail .. as far as I'm concerned MG is "the man" when it comes to understanding UEFI and Secureboot implementation (certainly on the Linux side of things).

For those who don't know who he is:

Hey anyone with the initials MG should be listened to :))
