How to set "Auto Log In" at start up
« on: June 02, 2014, 03:38:11 pm »
When I was doing my installation I forgot to check the bubble for auto log in.
I there a way that I can change this setting so that it does log in automatically at start up?

thank you

it is in the (system tools) on peppermint 3 start menu, under (users and groups) you can adjust all your user settings in there...

First let's backup the lightdm.conf file:
Code: [Select]
sudo cp -v /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.bak
now open lightdm.conf for editing:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
and add the line

autologin-user=<username>

were <username> is your actual username.

SAVE the file .. reboot to test.

For clarity......

My username is mark

so here's the contents of my lightdm.conf

Code: [Select]
[SeatDefaults]
autologin-guest=false
autologin-user=mark
autologin-user-timeout=0
autologin-session=lightdm-autologin
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter
user-session=Peppermint
