The ppa from FreeFileSync (ppa:freefilesync/ffs) will not work with any distro based on 16.04. There is a 7.9 version available as a .deb package which I have, but FreeFileSync is up to 8.3 now

Yes, I can download 8.3 directly, but it does not get into the menu that way and does not update via the update manager.

Is there another ppa for FreeFileSync that works with Xenial 16.04 based distro's?

Why is this marked (SOLVED) when there's no solution posted ?

@Norton

If you've discovered a solution, can you post it so others can benefit too .. you marked the topic (SOLVED) so people googling the same issue will think "ah, a solution" then will end up being sidetracked to a post with no solution ???

I found a solution - well, actually a workaround. I tried to delete my post, but the board would not let me. Since I didn't want people trying to figure this out when I had found a way around it, I just marked it solved.

OK, so here is the workaround.

Downloaded the 8.3 version of FreeFileSync to my /home/downloads folder.

then in the terminal:

mkdir ~/FFSbackup

sudo cp /usr/bin/{FreeFileSync,RealTimeSync} ~/FFSbackup

sudo rm /usr/bin/{FreeFileSync,RealTimeSync}

sudo mv ~/Downloads/FreeFileSync/{FreeFileSync,RealTimeSync} /usr/bin

sudo cp -R ~/Downloads/FreeFileSync /usr/share/

Works, but I'll have to go through the same thing each time there is a new version released. Still would like the FFS PPA to work with Xenial.

i really have to laugh at this: Just today, they updated the .deb version from 7.9 to 8.3 - so all I said above is moot.  >:(

Here you go for the .deb for Peppermint 7 or any Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 based distro.

Hi Norton, when you're posting web links, could you please remember to encapsulate them with the: Insert Hyperlink function.  This is located above the Wink  ;) emoticon in the forum editor.  I've done this for you  - many thanks  ;).
