I don't see what could possibly be scary about missile boats armed with the most easily hacked ("active") OS on the planet. I'm sure nobody would even think of exploiting that.  ???

Hi emegra,

I just discovered this post, and, yes, it's not only scary, BUT IT VERY SCARY!

Thanks for sharing it, though.  I promise you that things are getting stranger here by the day over.  To quote a late friend of mine, Jack Rogers, "You ain't seen nothing yet!"  Just wait, the year 2017 in the US is going to prove itself to be a real humdinger!

Thanks for this post,

perknh

Apparently there's no need to hack into our nuclear subs:
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2506560/margaret-thatcher-was-right-to-be-furious-at-hippies-who-broke-into-nuclear-subs/
you can just wander in and roam around.

I read somewhere that there have been at least another 2 break ins at Faslane since then.

Now THAT'S worrying .. physical hands by buttons :o

Yes, it certainly is.  This story hits a lot closer to home than you might imagine.  The Portsmouth Navel Shipyard is only miles 12.5 miles from my home.  I'm 99.99% certain that that would be a shoot-to-kill trespass. The US Marines don't play around there at all --and everyone here knows it too.

Hey we're neighbours .. Portsmouth Naval Base isn't that far from me either :))

Sometimes you guys across the pond aren't too inventive with your place names are you ;)

Actually I'm closer to Plymouth Naval Base .. do you have one of those too ?

No, but we've got Plymouth State University here.  I'm sure we'd all have a lot fun there than on a navel base anyway.  Just imagine all of these students running Peppermint instead of Windows 10 or macOS.  :o

I'll bet it does, that said if they hit the wrong button it doesn't matter much if you're close .. just a matter of "quick and crispy" Vs "drawn out and painful".

You have to hope there are codes involved and it isn't as easy as a big red FIRE button for the nukes .. but there's still highly radioactive material that could be used in a dirty bomb, or in this day and age if say a suicide bomber detonated any onboard torpedoes it'd presumably spread that military grade fissionable material around a bit :o
