have you simply checked if any drivers are being offered to you by

menu > Preferences > Additional Drivers

?

What's the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C display
WARNING: You are logged into reality as 'root' .. logging in as 'insane' is the only safe option.

The Additional Drivers tool should be offering you something.  I have a GTX 950 in my desktop and I installed and used the drivers from the main repositories using that.

Suggestion:  Try removing the repository you added, update your repository list, and try the Additional Drivers tool again.

To remove the GeForce ppa you installed:
Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
follow the onscreen instructions.  Alternatively, you can run:
Code: [Select]
sudo pluma sudo ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d
and search for the PPA.  Remove it with:
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -i /etc/apt/sources.list.d/PPA_Name.list
Replace PPA_Name.list with the name of the PPA.  I hope this helps  ;).

It can also be removed by going to Menu > Preferences > Software & Updates.  The PPA itself will be listed under "Other Software," the key will be under "Authentication."  Remove them by selecting them and clicking "Remove."

It's amazing how many ways there are to remove a PPA. :)

I didn't complete the sequence because I assume it wasn't supposed to do this.

Let me ask here. Every time I install Nvinia drivers it breaks the graphic of my winodws. Top bar on any window is not visible or broken. Some GTK incompatibility....  Did it ever happened to you ?

It shouldn't do...

Does running
Code: [Select]
xfwm4 --replace
bring window decorations back ?

Have you installed anything like compiz ?
