Determine wifi card specs (SOLVED)
« on: May 31, 2014, 09:36:53 am »
I am trying to determine the specs for the built in wifi card in this IBM T40 Thinkpad I bought...  I was able to boot it with Hirens boot cd using the linux gparted, and I used wicd to connect it to my router, and it is wpa2 capable...  I then used their Firefox to get on the web...  I am just curious if this is a wireless b or g card...  If I boot it using peppermint 3 live CD is there some commands that would give me the info on my device I am looking for?    ;)

You can use the lshw command.  Look for the second instance of "networking"
Code: [Select]
sudo lshw

Thanks Mac I found it and it says 80211B which is what I suspected since it shows only 11mb connection in wireless properties...
I am going to be stealing the hard drive and ram and now it looks like I will be stealing the wifi out of my old t30 for the newer t40....
I plan on selling the t30 to my friends daughter for a knockabout machine, so I want to keep the best parts the t40 which will be my daughters away machine when she visits grandma on the weekends....  :)
