Newer Laptop (SOLVED)
« on: May 30, 2014, 12:10:53 pm »
I just picked up a newer laptop for my daughter I am going to replace her ibm t30 with a newer ibm t40...
My question is since they use the same style hard drive what will happen if I insert her hard drive from the t30 into the t40 and turn it on...
will it boot and change the drivers for all the new devices it is going to find?
Her ibm t30 is running Peppermint 3 at the moment..   ???

Ususally it should "just work".

As Linux contains most drivers in the kernel (unlike Windows) swapping the HDD to another machine just results in the correct drivers being loaded for the new machine ;)

Proprietary drivers (such as graphics drivers) may be an exception.

How do you think a LiveCD/LiveUSB selects the right drivers ;)

I assumed it was a Voodoo thing of course, either that or it thought about it while eating farley's rusks and drinking beer....  LOL   ;)
