In PuseAudio Volume Control

on the "Output Device" tab

What is the "Port:" dropmenu set to ?

Is this a new problem ? .. or does it not work from the LiveUSB either ?

OK, (with an active internet connection) can you run this command:
Code: [Select]
cd ~ && wget http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh -O alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh --upload
you should then be presented with a bunch of output that ends with something similar to this:-

Please inform the person helping you.

Can you post the link (the part in red) back here.

Sound won't work from speakers but works in headphones. Not work from the LiveUSB.

Thanks in advance.  :)

What happens if you run:
Code: [Select]
alsactl restore
WARNING: You are logged into reality as 'root' .. logging in as 'insane' is the only safe option.

alsactl: load_state:1683: Cannot open /var/lib/alsa/asound.state for reading: File exists

Hardware is initialized using a generic method

It's strange. On Peppermint 6, sound worked very wel.  But, now don't work.  :-\

WAIT! Sound is working. What happened? I don't understand.
Thanks, PCNetSpec. God bless you!

(Can I delete the file alsa.info.sh?)

Yes you can delete alsa-info.sh

I'm not sure the working sound will survive a reboot so don't thank me yet ;)

Yes, you're right. Sound is not working after reboot.
How to solve this problem?

Still looking for a permanent solution, I need to test if it's safe to run with elevated privileges in a VM

As that command is run as the current user, a workaround would be to set it to run automatically at each boot.

I'm assuming running that command restores sound every time you boot and then run it ?

If so, is sound lost again if you log off/on (not reboot) ?

Yes. No sound after log off/on and after reboot. Only works with that command.

So do you want to create a script containing that command and set it to run at each login ?

Go to

menu > Preferences > Default applications for LXSession > Autostart (tab)

in the box next to "+Add" enter

alsactl restore

Click the "+Add" button.

Close LXSession configuration.

Log off/on to test.
