Can't install 'live' PM4 from CD or flash.
« on: May 25, 2014, 07:29:22 am »
At present running Mint 17 MATE. 3GHz Pentium D, 64 bit x2, 2G RAM, cpu supports PAE.
Have just downloaded PM4 iso. It checks out. Put on to CD and flash - both check out 'no errors'.
Using flash. Gets to 'Start up....' after 10-20 mins full slider, and it just sit there.  1 hour later.... no change.
Using CD, can choose 'live', goes to 'Start up...' begins, then screen blank, then screen off ......dead.
Can't choose Lubuntu from flash or CD.
Can't 'install' PM4.
I'm looking for an OS for another machine (64bit). PM looks favourite if I can check out 'live'.

When it displays the "Starting up" screen, if you hit "Esc" is there any text being displayed ?

Do you know how to remove the "quiet splash" kernel boot parameters .. so you can see what's happening during the boot ?

Thanks for prompt reply.
Using CD ...with boot and Esc we do have lots of text. Text came so quickly, possibly two screens full. Couldn't pause to study. Lots of comments of files not present. Screen went blank. No go.
Don't know of 'quiet splash' removal of parameters.

I had this problem with Peppermint 4 on a machine...  It would boot to the try it or install it menu, and I would choose to try it first, and it would go thru the booting process and just go to a black screen and stop.... Never had that issue with peppermint 3 on that particular machine, only with peppermint 4...  I forgot How PCNetSpec got me going with with Peppermint 4 on that machine, but it was something video card related...  I remember having to force vesa to get it to boot with my s3 savage video card....

Thank you rjm65.
Your memory serves you well.
To get around Mint 17 low and 4:3 screen res I installed my Asus 8400GS.
Removed said card, Voila! working, but back to low res in Peppermint as well.
Methinks I may go backwards to an OS that allows me to use my screens as I'm used to.
Cheers

Well like i said earlier peppermint 3 never had that issue, and when I tried lubuntu 14.04 it installed fine on that machine also...  and Lubuntu 14.04 is the base for peppermint 5 which will be coming out very soon, if you could wait a bit I would wait and install peppermint 5 on that machine....
