Peppermint 7 is surely a 'winner'! .. but...[SOLVED]
« on: June 26, 2016, 02:59:27 am »
Just trying out the live version of Peppermint 7 on my netbook. Its excellent. I'm already wanting to make the switch back to Peppermint. However... the installer (from my USB stick) keeps crashing and comes up with the error halfway through the install: 'An attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from the CD failed'! Clicked Close to close t he screen (to auto send an error msg back to the Peppermint Team .. but wont work..nor the Window 'X'. Tried several installs trying different options.. eg choosing/not auto download updates, dl 3rd party extras, choosing its own partition, setting up one myself etc .. but still crashes at the APT? Anyone else having that issue? Can't wait to get it installed..if only??

Have you checked the MD5 to see if your ISO was corrupted during download?

Ahh thats an idea. No I haven't. Not sure how to check the MD5 .. might try to download it again. I downloaded it from the original Peppermint site.

Will try that.. thanks.

Right-click the ISO file you downloaded and choose Calculate MD5 Checksum

The MD5 should match the one on this page for your version (32 or 64-bit):

Ok.. checked the MD5 (downloaded GtkHash). MD5 is the same. Downloaded Peppermint 7 again... same size as before. I'm installing it now.

Hmmm.. Installed a second Peppermint 7 ISO (MD5 checked) from USB via Unetbootin (32-bit file) ..and still having the same 'Installer crashed - An attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from CD failed' ..message.

Unless anyone can help.. I might have to wait for the Peppermint Team to discover and correct the issue...pitty.

It sounds like it might be a UNetBootin issue  :-\.  Do you have access to a Windows computer?  If you do, install the Universal USB Installer.  Download the Peppermint 7 32-bit ISO to the Windows computer and make you USB installer from there - good luck  ;).

It looks like for some reason your system is looking for files on a CDROM and failing .. it may be best to use a USB creator the does a 1:1 clone of the ISO image to the USB stick.

If you're doing this in Windows, try either
Rufus
or
Win32 Disk Imager

If using Linux, can you mention which distro ?

Thanks guys! Peppermint 7 is installed and working on my Acer netbook. You were right.. the problem was UNetbootn that I used to burn Peppermint 7 ISO to USB.

A note to ppl who want to burn Peppermint 7 to USB. DON't use Linux's UNetbootn.

Download and  Install Universal USB Installer (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/)  to Windows.  Download the Peppermint 7 32-bit ISO to the Windows computer and make you USB installer from there...then burn USB image to your destination Linux computer. ~ thanks to AndyInMokum :)
