A few questions from a beginner... (SOLVED)
« on: May 11, 2016, 02:10:03 pm »
Hi. I would just like to say that I am new to using Linux as a desktop environment. I have very limited experience in working with Linux (namely CentOS and Debian) in a SSH environment so this is all new to me. Moving on...

My first issue, is that I don't use Chromium and therefore I have 'partially' uninstalled it via the Software Manager. I have even went into terminal and attempted to remove it there, and it said it was already removed. My issue, is that it still shows up in my menu and I would like to put Firefox in it's place.

My second issue, when I right click something in my menu and attempt to make a desktop shortcut of it, it creates a file name with ".desktop" behind it, and the icon is different. I am unsure on why this does this, but the program works fine when clicking it. It's just that the icon and file name are wrong.

Lastly, I would really appreciate if someone will tell me the easiest way to remove default applications that I do not want as I think I am doing it wrong.

Thanks to all who help!

Thank you very much for your answer. Also, is there any way to move an icon to the left on my taskbar (to be similar to Windows 7)?

Hi, Kyle.
Welcome.  :)
My opinion: do not remove default applications.
Read this from Ptjor (Linux Mint User): https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/fatalmistakes
But, if PCNetSpec says: you can remove Chromium, follow what he said. He is PeppermintOS developer.
Cheers.

Hi Kyle, welcome. Do you mean an icon to launch a program? Right-click on the panel (taskbar, whatever) and choose Add/Remove panel items.

They're listed top to bottom in the order they appear from left to right. You might want to Add another Application Launch Bar, then click Up until it moves to between the Menu and the Task Bar.

Click Edit to add the application(s) you want to launch (choose them from the menus to the right). Then click Close in each of the two dialog boxes.
