Yes, click on it in the left hand column of the file manager ;)

To give you a visual on what PCNetSpec said:

Under "Devices": If you click on your USB it gets mounted, after that you can access it. Next to it you will see a "triangle", click on it to unmount the USB before you remove it.

And to answer your other questions:
You can install software through Software Manager, Synaptic Package Manager or via the Terminal, later on you can add PPA's or use .deb files or even build from source...
And about the "command line", here is something to get you started and this (pdf) is also very nice!
To be honest just learn as you go! ;)

If you fresh installed, you should fully update your system:
Open a terminal: Ctrl + Alt + t

Run following commands one by one:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
You will be asked for your password, type it in and hit enter (you will not see any output while typing your password).

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get upgrade
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
After that restart your machine and enjoy Peppermint!

If you have any questions just ask on the forum, we'll try to help you!

BTW: Welcome to Peppermint! :)

Hi abundancer, welcome to awesome world of Linux and to the very cool Peppermint Forum.   Learning the command line isn't an overnight process.  It's as GNULINUX has advised, learn as you go.  The PDF he's given you is a great starting point.   It's not hard, you'll soon realize what an immensely powerful tool it is.

Hang out in the forum and when you see something that you like give it a whirl.  Don't be shy, we were all newbies at one time or another.  Ask questions, this is really important.  Use the Search function.  Check out the tutorials too.  There's loads of interesting stuff in that section.  There's a whole gang of use here, who will be really happy to help you out.  Don't worry, contrary to popular belief, Linux is really easy, once the penny drops.  You'll be up to speed in no time  ;).
Backup! Backup! Backup! If you're missing any of these -  you ain't Backed Up!
