[SOLVED] Canon iP2700
« on: May 04, 2016, 04:37:00 pm »
I've realised I never installed my printer, which I hardly ever use. I need to do something very similar to the 64-bit version of this:
https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,913.msg7896.html#msg7896

but
Code: [Select]
$ wget http://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/t/tiff3/libtiff4_3.9.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
--2016-05-04 22:35:27--  http://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/t/tiff3/libtiff4_3.9.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb

HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 404 Not Found
2016-05-04 22:35:28 ERROR 404: Not Found.

Are these packages/drivers still available? I tried installing it automatically via Printers from the menu and it gets recognised but won't print anything. Thanks...

Thanks PCNetSpec, that did the trick :)

I've discovered my pdf viewer (Evince) is no good though, it wouldn't print (GNOME print preview worked). What's a good one to use?

I'd include this in Peppermint if it were open source ;)

Hi, I want to install this again, in Peppermint 7 this time, but I'm getting "file not found" for the drivers. Is there any way to do this? I saw you recently helped out a user with the very similar iP2600, Mark, but he was using a 32-bit system and I'm on 64-bit. Cheers.

EDIT: the libtiff downloads but the "canon trunk" ppa is "unable to locate package", possibly because there's no version for Xenial.

Just bumping this because it's not solved any more for PM7. I'm going to give this printer away to a Windows user anyway but it'd be nice to get it working one last time.

Try
Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mark-pcnetspec/canon-printer
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install cndrvcups-common cnijfilter-ip2700series
now set up the printer the normal way, selecting

Canon > IP2700

as the driver.

In the future, can you please not change the status of a topic marked as (SOLVED) to (un-SOLVED) just because you now want it for different version of Peppermint .. the ORIGINAL issue WAS solved for Peppermint 6 as asked, it doesn't become UNSOLVED just because you add another Peppermint version to the mix ;)
(Ideally you'd have changed the title here to include "Peppermint 6", and started a new topic for Peppermint 7)

Thanks, it installed! Now I'm wondering if there's any way to put it through a cleaning cycle in Linux, because I can't find one. The test page has sections missing/very faint.

No idea .. is there nothing in the driver properties for print head cleaning ?

and is the driver issue now (SOLVED) ? .. if so, can you please stop adding new issues to this topic, mark it solved, and start a new topic about head cleaning.

Yeah, the driver's solved but the only maintenance option is to print a test page. I'll not bother starting another topic because I don't have a lot of time to sort this out.
