Hauppauge hvr-1600 help
« on: September 25, 2016, 09:32:49 am »
Hi!  Any one up on tv tuner cards?  I have now ompletely movd to Linux using Peppermint 7.  I have a hvr-1600 tuner card, which the system sees, but programs like Me-TV or Kaffine don't detect.  I have many home vhs tapes I want to convert to digital.  i have spent a few hours researching but have not come up with a solution.  Any suggestions?

To help us help you, ALL new requests for technical support should include basic system information.

If you haven't already done so, please open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run the following command:
Code: [Select]
inxi -Fz
then copy what was returned in the terminal and post it back here.

This was an automated response but please don't ignore it, providing this information now is highly likely to save time for both you and any prospective respondents and aid in the diagnosis of your problem  .. Thanks in advance :)

Hi    stevesveryown

I spent a long time doing exactly what you're attempting with both VHS & Betamax tapes and for me this is an area Linux is a little weak in but I assure you perfectly possible with the right hardware

However it would help to start with if you post your inxi -Fz as requested and take it from there

If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs then you're not quite grasping the situation

Can you explain what you mean by "the system sees" it ?

Can you explain what you mean by "the system sees" it ?
Using Hardinfo you can see:
-PCI Devices-
Multimedia video controller      : Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23418 Single-Chip MPEG-2 Encoder with Integrated Analog Video/Broadcast Audio Decoder

Using terminal and command lspci -v you see:
08:05.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23418 Single-Chip MPEG-2 Encoder with Integrated Analog Video/Broadcast Audio Decoder
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc. WinTV HVR-1600
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 20
   Memory at f8000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64M]
   Capabilities: [44] Vital Product Data
Capabilities: [4c] Power Management version 2
   Kernel driver in use: cx18
   Kernel modules: cx18

But yet Me-tv or Kaffeine doesn't pick up the tuner.
