Okay, it's going to go like this:*

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install aptitude
then

Code: [Select]
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://packages.linuxdeepin.com/deepin trusty main non-free universe" >> /etc/apt/sources.list'
then

Code: [Select]
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb-src http://packages.linuxdeepin.com/deepin trusty main non-free universe" >> /etc/apt/sources.list'
then

Code: [Select]
wget http://packages.linuxdeepin.com/deepin/project/deepin-keyring.gpg
then

Code: [Select]
gpg --import deepin-keyring.gpg
then

Code: [Select]
sudo gpg --export --armor 209088E7 | sudo apt-key add -
then

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then

Code: [Select]
sudo aptitude install dde-meta-core
then

Code: [Select]
sudo aptitude install python-deepin-gsettings deepin-music-player deepin-software-center deepin-movie deepin-game-center

*or, per Andy's cautionary note, should sudo apt-get update be changed to sudo aptitude update:-\

[T]here are a lot of people happily running Peppermint ICE which hasn't been receiving ANY updates for a while now .. and I personally would STILL consider that MUCH more secure than any version of Windows with up-to-date AV/Anti-malware ;)

Thank you, PCNetSpec ...will do!  And, thank you, AndyInMokum, for that excellent question too!

When the formatting finishes, I will begin this process all over again.

I appreciate all of your help here.

Knock on wood!  ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong.  Isn't it advisable to ONLY use aptitude after you've used it?  I read somewhere that mixing apt and aptitude can cause all kinds of dependency issues  :-\.

I've read the same thing but I doubt if it's true as they're both just front ends for the lower level dpkg .. I can't say I've ever noticed any problems but then again I don't use aptitude much.

I can find nothing in the reference manuals to suggest they're incompatible:
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-reference/ch02.en.html
in fact exactly the opposite, it seems to suggest they can generally be interchanged at will, but to favour apt-get where you can .. but it seems to be more of a "because it's more tried and tested" than anything else .. it also has a habit of suggesting mass removals (so possibly don't use it to uninstall without reading what it's going to do first) .. they also suggest you don't use aptitude for release-upgrades, but as I said nothing about any incompatibility with dependencies.

I also vaguely remember (but I could be wrong) there was a time when they handled the "auto installed" flag differently .. but I'm pretty sure that was fixed .. maybe that's where the story originated ?

I can't say how accurate this is, I can only reference the manual, and say what my own experiences have been .. you'll have to make up your own mind.

To my friends within Peppermint forum:

I know darn well Deepin is installed somewhere here within this new installation of Peppermint that I have just installed on this computer.  But, no matter what I do, I can't find it.  I logout, and then I'm given only one option --Peppermint!  But, Deepin is installed somewhere here, and of that I am certain. ;)

It's being a rascal, or a little brat --that much I know.  Any hints of how to ferret it out of its little hiding place would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

I think:

Code: [Select]
sudo aptitude install qtdeclarative-abi-5-2-1 qtbase-abi-5-2-1
should enable most of that. I tried it as a simulation (-s).

The conflicts I don't really understand. Over to you, PCNetSpec?

Good morning, zebedeeboss & murraymint,

I answered "Y" of "yes" to everything.  Zebedeeboss, I thought most of that was installed with  the aptitude command.  I copied the entire installation --and it was huge!- from within the terminal, but after applying the added update notifications (two sets of them), I lost the copy.  As far as I know, I did not end up with flash player installer because it conflicted with Ubuntu extras, but that's not such a bad thing anyway.  I don't think not having flash player installer would make or break an installation.

murraymint, this is what I get when I run your command --nothing!

I still think I've got Deepin installed, but I don't know how to make it show itself.  :-\

If you log off, on the login screen can you select deepin as the session top right (before logging on) ?

What's the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls -a /usr/share/xsessions?

Good morning, PCNetSpec,

No, only Peppermint appears as an option.

It's in deepin-default-settings .. can you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep deepin
