Canonical will be the next microsoft. No doubt about this. A problem in the future for all ubuntu-based distros.

They've been trying to be Microsoft for years.  I think they're definitely well on their way.  If they ever get that bad and if it affects all derivatives, I'll have to jump ship and use Fedora, or something else not based on Ubuntu.  Though, if they ever get that bad, I expect Mint will probably go fully independent with its own repositories and source code and Peppermint can be based on it instead of Ubuntu.  ;)
