as far as I can ascertain from your posted results: everything appears normal. Perhaps I've overlooked something and therefore ask for confirmation by others.

Well everything looked fine to me earlier too (kernels being applied in GRUB correctly, and you now have confirmation that init.rd is building)  .. so I can only assume they've made some change to the kernel after 3.13.0-79 that this system doesn't like.

So we have 2 options here...

a) mark the 3.13.0-79 kernel as the default and call it a day
or
b) start going through the logs and try discover where it's breaking

I may have already asked this, but are you using an proprietary drivers ?

Well, thanks, y'all.

No proprietary drivers on this old HP Mini. I'll just mark .79 as default and see if later updates do anything.
