when is peppermint 7 going to come?

I don't no. Probably in this year after new ubuntu and linux mint versions. Probably with a mix of desktops elements. I like Peppermint Os but i don't like this mix of elements (mate, xfce, lxde, Kde, and probably another new desktop, budgie or snoopy or plasma future 6.998  or something crazy).
Cheers.

Probably in this year after new ubuntu and linux mint versions.

Why would it be after Mint?  Peppermint isn't based on Mint.  It usually releases around the same tike as Mint Mate and Cinnamon and well before Mint XFCE and KDE.

This is how Linux distros progress and develop over time.  You utilize the tools that are made available by the various Open source licenses.  Every distro available is made up of a mixture of components that over time have been fine tuned to meet the needs of their users.  For instance, Peppermint was initially built from LubuntuLubuntu uses pure LXDE.  While Lubuntu is a fine distro.  The desktop can't be considered refined by today's standards.  Peppermint wanted to offer the speed and lightness of LXDE with the refinements of Xfce.  The devs proceeded to build LXDE upon the Xfce window manager, Xfwm4 instead of Openbox.  Since Peppermint Four, more and more refinements have been developed, to the point where it's basically it's own desktop environment.  It's no longer dependent on the individual development of its components.   This process is not unique.  MATE came out of Gnome2, Cinnamon and Unity are the offspring of Gnome3LXqt is the merger of KDE and LXDE, the list goes on.  Linux is modular.  Building a distro is somewhat similar to LEGO for computers  ;D.  If you haven't already done it, you should made a Live install of Lubuntu 14.04 and compare it to Peppermint Six.  It'll give you a better idea of how the divergence works and why it's been done  ;).

Having used pure LXDE with the Openbox window manager in the past, I have to say that Peppermint's hybrid desktop has far less issues.  LXDE is fine and all, but development is slower than some of the other desktops and bugs can hang around longer.  By taking the best elements of LXDE and blending them with great parts of other desktops, Peppermint delivers a wonderful, working desktop.  Plus, as PCNetSpec said, the hybrid desktop makes Peppermint what it is; unique.  (my opinion, of course, except that last bit, which is a truth)

I've been using thus distro since Peppermint One and Ice, and the progress over the past six years has been amazing.  I have no doubt that Peppermint Seven will continue that progress.

Well said and a very interesting thread. I just returned to Peppermint 6 after trying other distros based on LXDE. What I have found out about Peppermint 6 that makes it so appealing is what I think was probably one of the objectives of the Pepp6 developement team and that is balance. That's why I am now using Pepp6 again and may just install it on my iMac and see how it goes. I think Peppermint 7 will continue this trend where balance, speed and stability are it's strong points.

Well said and a very interesting thread. I just returned to Peppermint 6 ...

Welcome back !   ;D

I thought I might mention ...

Speaking of stability - as an experiment, I installed the Peppermint 6 Respin on a bootable USB stick with persistence.

I've been using this setup to power a bot on Dubtrack.fm 24/7/365.

I just checked, and the uptime is now 193 days, e.g. 193 days of constant heavy use without crashing or requiring a reboot.

I fully expect Peppermint 7 to be equally robust.  ;)

Just be careful, Mark.  If you start talking a lot about rolling in regard to a Linux distro, people may get the wrong idea. ;)

Okay, let's see what Google does with this...

I've spent all day seeing how far I could throw candy:-

lemon sherbert 1 was over-arm and went 20 feet....

Chocolate bar 2 was under-arm and didn't go far....

Peppermint 7 which will be a rolling release .. I think it will go far.

Okay sorry bout that   :-[

I just KNOW someone's going to say .. "but, but, but you said it was going to be a rolling release .. what happened ?" when it comes out ::)

Somewhere along the line I'm going to regret that little...

There, I reckon this should do it -
(do you think it needs a trumpet ?)

I've decided it's not going to be called Peppermint 7 .. instead being named

Peppermint (2)(5)

So we can join in with Apple and Windows :)
