flashplayer on Optiplex GX270 not working (Solved)
« on: May 22, 2014, 01:32:01 pm »
Hi

would someone please be able to help me out.
the flash player is not working on this Dell optiplex.
the video is pink, pixelated, and smashed to one side.

I tried some of the other solutions found on the old forums but it still does not work.

if someone would be able to help me.
thank you

Can you open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and post the output (if any) from running this command:
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep sse2

Try right-clicking the video, and select "Settings" .. then take the tick out of "enable hardware acceleration"

Did that make any difference ?

Can you tell us if the same thing happens in Chrome .. you can download Chrome here:
http://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/chrome/browser/

Get the .deb for your architecture .. and double click to install

When I downloaded it and opened it up it seemed as though the whole brower (text and borders) looked like the video that is in the chromium browser.

thanks

then
Code: [Select]
wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11876059/flashplayer-11.1-32bit.tar.gz
then

Not sure if I did something incorrectly but now the video does not play on some websites.
Here is the info from the terminal from inputting the directions.
Thank you again for helping me through this

Ooops I shouldn't have created the directory with elevated privileges

If you have Firefox installed STOP NOW and let me know.

If not .. run:
Code: [Select]
sudo mv -v ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla-broken
then
Code: [Select]
mkdir -p ~/.mozilla/plugins
then
Code: [Select]
cd ~/.mozilla/plugins
then
Code: [Select]
wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11876059/flashplayer-11.1-32bit.tar.gz
then
Code: [Select]
tar xvf flashplayer-11.1-32bit.tar.gz
then close ALL web browser instances (to unload the flashplayer from memory) then re-open Chromium.

How is flash now ?

To undo:-
Code: [Select]
rm ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer
then restart Chromium

I've also fixed the command in tmy6 original instructions
