"apt in Debian Unstable and Ubuntu 16.04 now requires that repositories be signed with RSA keys using SHA256 or higher. Some 3rd party repositories don't meet these requirements. "

Will this in any way effect Peppermint 6 ?

I'm 1000% confident the team will have the official Peppermint repository up to the standard it needs to be.  However, some people like to add PPAs to their system, and that's where they may run into problems, if the PPA owners haven't updated their signatures to meed the standard.

Peppermint packages are built on launchpad, then served from a launchpad PPA .. As I understand it signing should be an automated as part of the Launchpad upload process so this only applies to third party repos .. but I guess I'll find out for sure the next time I upload something to the Peppermint 7 development PPA and then atempt to install it in the dev-build of Peppermint 7 ;)
(Launchpad being owned by Ubuntu it's not really "third party")

Whatever the outcome, we'll fix if necessary :)

[EDIT]

Before anyone asks - No, you can't have a copy of the Peppermint 7 dev-build, it's TOP SECRET, heck now you even know one exists I may need to kill you all :))

Well, it stands to reason there is a dev build.  Otherwise, y'all are behind the curve.  ;)

Conforming to Ubuntu's guidelines is simple. For Peppermint 6 users, there will be a few steps that they'll need to follow in order to load the PPA key, but that is a bridge we can cross when the time comes.

So far as a Peppermint 7 dev build, SSSSHHHHHHHHH!!!!
