« on: March 07, 2016, 05:12:11 pm »
Hello folks!
I know I know, it` s too early, but... any already known ideas about upcoming Peppermint 7 (I mean kernel version, icon set etc.)?

It'll have the same kernel series as 16.04, and yeah it'll have an icon set, in fact it'll even have a wallpaper too .. we're clever like that :).

Seriously .. we've never liked to give away particulars here at Peppermint, specially before the beta test is over and then we release so no point.

We're not even willing to give away info on icon set(s) or theme(s), particularly this time around as gtk 3.18 is proving a little "difficult" so nothing is set in stone yet anyway.

I have a feeling it's going to be called Peppermint Seven, but it may be too early to even predict that.   :P

Just for a laugh I always fancied having "code names" based on cocktails that began with the letter of the alphabet that corresponded to the number .. so if 7 = G

Maybe one of these:
http://bartenderapp.com/cocktails/list/g

Such as:-
Peppermint 7 (Glacier Mint)
or
Peppermint 7 (Ground Zero)
or
Peppermint 7 (Greek Lightning)
or something similar

Though probably not:-
Peppermint 7 (Gorilla Snot)
or
Peppermint 7 (German Hooker)
or
Peppermint 7 (Grand-Ma in a Wheelchair)
:)

I'm somewhat partial to "Greek Lightning" myself.  It rolls off the tongue.  Plus, Peppermint is fast, so the "Lighting" part is apt.  Though, I'm not sure where the "Greek" part comes into play, given that the OS is run in the US and has programmers in the UK.  ;)

I expect version 7, code name "Grumpy Greyhound", to work perfectly.

Boy, they sure do have a lot of stuff with "Green" in it.  Maybe the people at Linux Mint should take a look at that, just in case they run out of or get bored with girls' names. :))

Actually, allow me to interject...

Seriously though, Peppermint is built and managed by an international community of developers, sys admins, support providers, testers, and of course, users. :)

Yes, that is indeed true.  However, I was referring to the home office crew in the US and, of course, PCNetSpec in the UK.  However, that's not to say plenty of other people don't contribute.  I see you're in Norway.  Plus, our main man Linus Torvalds is from Finland, and the other great Linux projects and software projects that Peppermint uses are from all over the world.  I think that's one thing that makes Linux so great.  Big software companies may recruit from all over the world, but they don't necessarily get the best the world has to offer, because not everybody wants to leave their home to go to a foreign land for a job.  However, with Linux, you can work from your home and contribute to any project, so Linux really does get the best the world has to offer.  :D

Peppermint Six doesn't use LXDE, or at least not all of it.  It's a mix of Gnome, LXDE and a few other things.

I expect in Peppermint OS 7 two things:  a lightweight distro suitable for netbooks and ufw and gufw pre installed.
Have a nice day.
