Peppermint Six not recognising eSATA DVD/CD drive. [SOLVED]
« on: March 02, 2016, 02:19:36 pm »
Hi, I've a external DVD/CD RW drive attached to my Dell laptop via a eSATA connection.  Peppermint Six isn't recognising the drive.  It's getting power and when a media disk is loaded, it initializes and spins up the disk.  I've tried getting Asunder to see it, without any luck.  Any ideas are much appreciated  ;).

Does anything turn up in dmesg when either the drive is plugged in, or a disk is put in it ?

is it a data or music/video disk ?

and how is the drive powered ?

I've figured it out.  It was a BIOS setting.  The SATA operation setting was set to ATA.  This doesn't support eSATA.  I switched the setting to AHCI.  This supports eSATA.  Rebooted and bingo, everything is now hunky dory  ;).
