Hi rajeev2631007, how's it going?  You want to know about compiz.  It's a programme that allows to you to have all kinds of special visual effects,  It's EXTREMELY resource hungry.  If you have limited memory and an older CPU, you'll find that your computer is almost unusable.  It comes with a huge amount of dependencies too.  It's in the repos, so you can install it either from the Software Manager, via the terminal or by using the Synaptic Package Manager.   I'm not sure of the compatibility with our desktop configuration.  You may have to turn off the effect provided by Xfwm4 for compiz to work.  Just be warned, if you're running an older machine with limited resources.  Compiz will turn it into a lumbering heavy weight instantly  ;),
Backup! Backup! Backup! If you're missing any of these -  you ain't Backed Up!

I tried compiz (and fusion-icon) on Peppermint 6 x64 and didn't get it working properly... you may have more luck...  :-\
It was not stable and the window decorations didn't work fully. I removed it again via an earlier Timeshift "backup" point.

After that I tried kwin and that did it for me. Not every option works but most effects do and it's stable.
Fully working: Desktop Cube, Magic Lamp effect, Oxigen Window Decoration with Borders and the Wobbly Windows!

I'm running it on my main system (first in my signature) and have no (noticeable) degradation in performance.
It takes 120-180 MB RAM.

You can see a (cube) screenshot here and read about how I installed it here.

Hope this helps!  ;)

Hi

I had installed compiz and turn off the effect provided by Xfwm4 for compiz to work as suggested by Andy. But It is not working I had tried all effects one by one.  Is it incompatible or compiz is not stable.  :-\

Hi,

I also tried Kwin as suggested by GNULINUX. As I type Kwin --replace and run this it stuck during processing and abort in between. :-\

Compiz is easy to set up in Peppermint 6

open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install compiz compiz-plugins compiz-plugins-default compiz-plugins-main compiz-plugins-extra compizconfig-settings-managerNow open CompizConfig Settings Manager

menu > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager

and enable these options (it's IMPORTANT that at least these options are enabled:-
Composite
Gnome Compatibility
OpenGL
Window Decoration
Wobbly Windows  <-- this one is optional, I've only added it so it can be tested
Move Windows
Place Windows
Resize Windows

Close CCSM.

Open a terminal and test it works with
Code: [Select]
compiz --replaceif it works (eg. you have windows titlebars/decorations and wobbly windows works .. you  need to set it to autostart as the window manager.

if it doesn't work, a reboot will get you back to where you are now

to autostart it .. open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/xdg/lxsession/Peppermint/desktop.conffind the line that reads

windows_manager/command=xfwm4

and change it to

windows_manager/command=compiz --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp

SAVE the file and exit gedit

Back in the terminal run:
Code: [Select]
gedit ~/.config/lxsession/Peppermint/desktop.conffind the line that reads

windows_manager/command=xfwm4

and change it to

windows_manager/command=compiz --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp

SAVE the file and exit gedit.

Now log off and on to test .. for some strange reason, on some PC's you may need to log off/on twice before it autostarts.

If you want the desktop cube to work, in CCSM you'll need to go to

General > General Option > Desktop Size (tab)

and set "Horizontal Virtual Size" to 4

Obviously you'll also need to enable the desktop cube ;)

You typed kwin with a lowercase "k"? A restart (log off/on) may also help!

If it doesn't work I hope you get compiz working through PCNetSpec post above!

I'm happy with kwin so I'm not going to try compiz... again...  ;)

Under "Window Management" in CCSM, enable ONE of the "Switchers"...

Application Switcher  <--- this one is Alt+Tab by default
Ring Switcher  <--- this one is Super+Tab by default
Shift Switcher  <--- this one is Super+Tab by default
Static Application Switcher  <--- this one is Alt+Tab by default

and make sure it's "Next Window" keybinding is set to Alt+Tab

This is the last compiz "configuration" advice I'll be giving .. I wrote up how to get it to work, but I don't want to spend forever explaining how to use it (reason - I don't have it installed, personally I think it wears thin really quickly and then is just using resources for nothing) .. google/duckducko are your friends ;)

Thanks you very much  PCNetSpec. Its works too.... :)

I understand you concern I'll not waste your more time on this. If I need further I'll ask Mr. google and Mr. duckduco .  ;)

After using few hours I also agree with you it is skin only and using too much resources for nothing. That's why it is not part of Peppermint by default. I just looking for wobbly windows and water effect but it is using too much resources for this feature.

Anyway You're always helpful and kind enough to explain me concept and why it is not worth or worth it with your experience.  ;)

Thank you very much.
