http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2994

A worry and certainly NOT good that Linuxmint's website was hacked.  ::)

I have recently read that there is a bug. Quote BBC website: "The bug is found in glibc - a open-source library of code that is widely used in internet-connected devices.".

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-35592916

What I understand from this article, it is a potential vulnerability that can be exploited by hackers.  :-\

Don't worry about it, a fix was issued on 17th Feb 2016.  See this link: http://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,3083.msg30385.html#msg30385.   Ain't Linux wonderful, it's fixed before most people even know about it - Stay Calm & Carry On  ;).

We'd never wish that on ANY other Linux distro .. at the end of the day, we're all working "together" not "competitively", Peppermint benefits greatly from the Mint dev teams efforts so we're glad to see they recovered quickly and wish them all the  best.

I always think of all those wasted resources/knowledge and time that could be used for something positive instead of this...

Linux Mint and forum still offline ATM...  :(

I'll never understand the mentality of people who want to inflict damage upon something that is good either.  I just don't get it.

I hear you there.  It's absolutely ridiculous.  It's imbecilic script kiddies that are the culprits too because it's not even a sophisticated attack.  It's just annoying and wasting people's time and effort.  I really feel for Clem and his team over at Mint HQ.  They must be going crazy and getting well cranky on top of it from lack of sleep.  I'm showing my support by using LMDE 2 "Betsy" to send this  ;).

Side note -

I found this whilst searching for more info on the Mint hack
http://www.zdnet.com/article/research-shows-antivirus-products-vulnerable-to-attack/

Makes you wonder if any third party Linux AV is actually making you less secure doesn't it ;)
