I don't think this is fixable then .. though I'm still a bit baffled how unloading the driver, then reloading it somehow stops hibernation from working (I'm not doubting you, I just find it odd).

Naturally I will be pouring over this for a bit. But main issues here are the issues with X that I read about so often, correct?

Java gets me going in the morning. Tux doing Java makes him FAT.

Well I can't see how unloading/loading the wireless drivers would cause the X server to inhibit suspend/hibernate

Just as a matter of interest, if you try to put the machine into hibernate from the command line:

sudo pm-hibernatedoes it give any clues why hibernate is failing ?

or are there any clues in:

gedit /var/log/pm-suspend.log
