« on: February 07, 2016, 03:01:37 am »
When I start using Linux one thing make me confuse it was file manger there are lot of file manger few of them is Nautilus/Thunar/Nemo . I found one video which comparing these file mangers. I hope you will find useful and informative.

Comaparing File Managers - Nautilus Versus Thunar Versus Nemo

Now I'm using the Nemo file manager, which gives some nice new features including the ability to handle custom nemo action scripts, better desktop management, easier mounting and management of remote network shares (including Windows SMB shares, WebDAV, FTP, SFTP over SSH, etc.), and a smoother overall experience.

BE AWARE - The instructions that follow are NOT for Peppermint

Nemo file Manager with Extensions for Ubuntu 14.04/13.10/13.04/12.10/12.04/other Ubuntu derivatives (Updated)
http://www.noobslab.com/2013/10/nemo-file-manager-with-extensions-for.html

We can make Nemo as Default file Manger in Setting--Preferred Application-- Select Nemo as Default file manger.

Set Nemo as Default File Manager in Ubuntu/other Ubuntu derivatives

Colour me confused .. Nemo is already the default file  manager in Peppermint 6  :-\

There's also no such thing as "Settings > Preferred Applications" in Peppermint  ???

So I'm guessing you're using something other than Peppermint 6 ?

Oh, and I'm sure I've seen these words before:-

Yes I know Peppermint 6 use Nemo file Manager.  I think I forgot to mentioned it is generic tutorial to install Nemo File Manger where It is not default File manger.

Right Now I'm using Peppermint 6. Before this I had used zorin 9/Linux Lite  . Zorin 9 and Linux Lite using PCManfm and Thuner and both are missing windows SMB. And start looking distro which had given below feature and found peppermint 6 with nemo and given quote  . Today I happy to know you're the person who wrote this line. You know due to this feature I start using Peppermint 6 (That Time I don't know this is Nemo file manager feature). After reading below lines I start exploring Peppermint 6. You deserve thanks for this.

Today I release this earth is very small place and Internet make it more small.

Sorry Rajeev I'm not "having a go", but I'm still baffled why you'd post instructions for how to install Nemo on the forum of a distro that already uses Nemo :-\

I'd get it on the Ubuntu forum, or my other general Linux forum .. but I can't see the point here, in fact the only thing it can do here is cause confusion as the instructions are Ubuntu specific and won't work for Peppermint.

Before anyone asks .. NO there's no forum policy discouraging users of other distros posting, but I'd hope where instructions differ, working Peppermint instructions would at least be included and clearly marked so new users don't get into trouble following the wrong instructions.

This is after all primarily a Peppermint support forum ;)

Cheers Rajeev .. I do like the video though, it shows brilliantly some of the reasons *why* we chose Nemo over the other file managers :)

I *really* don't get the dumbing down of Nautilus which was once the de-facto and IMHO unrivalled Linux file manager .. People wanted *more* functionality not less, hence all the action scripts that appeared for it.

We can be thankful the Mint team forked Nautilus into Nemo keeping the action scripting "pretty much" the same.

Nemo is what Nautilus would be now if the Gnome team hadn't gone insane a few years back.
