Review in ham radio magazine
« on: February 06, 2016, 11:35:44 am »
I wrote a review of Peppermint 6 for the February issue of DKARS Magazine, a free ham radio magazine. It has reasonable reader base (+/- 5000 downloads / month) and is partly written in English, partly in Dutch.  The review might not be in-depth in the eyes of the many Peppermint aficionados here, but please keep in mind that this magazine is for radio amateurs, not computer-crazy people :) Yet ham radio and computers are interlinked these days, and distros with a small footprint are in high demand.

Great little review covering everything necessary for a non (Linux) technical review .. thanks for that, much appreciated :)

If there's any feedback from the review please let us know.

Thanks again Capivara.

Hi Capivara,

I just got around to looking at your excellent article -- and WOW I didn't realize how easy it is to read Dutch ! :D

Most of the other articles must be in some dialect ... I only understood a few things ...  :-X

Well done, Capivara!

I don't know if that was meant as an allegory, such as "it's all Greek to me," but ...

Over the years, on the web, I've always gotten along fabulously with the Dutch.  I have an odd since of humor, and so do they - so, I think it's a matter of understanding one another's mindset.  Whatevs.

Anyway, if I remember correctly, the Dutch ppl don't have a native language, e.g. there is no Dutch language.  AFAIK most of them speak a Flemish dialect, which isn't even taught in schools.  I believe it's passed down from generation to generation by their elders.

I could be wrong about any or all of that, but maybe Hans can set the record straight ...  :)

LOL  ;D

Some clarification is needed...

In Belgium we have 3 native languages (Dutch, French and German), in contrast with some other countries we all get along pretty well!
I'm a Belgian and my first language is Dutch and that's the same language as they speak in The Netherlands.
Our "Belgian Dutch dialect" is called Flemish and it is in many parts just like Afrikaans...

So the "dialect" you see in the magazine (pdf) isn't a dialect at all, it's Dutch!  ;)

OMG !!!  I just surfed over to the Wikipedia Dutch Language page and I'm more confused than ever.   :-\

Under the Popular Misconceptions heading it says:

Quote
Dutch is the language of government, education, and daily life in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium. There is no officially recognized language called "Flemish", and both the Dutch and Belgian governments adhere to the standard Dutch (Algemeen Nederlands) defined by the Nederlandse Taalunie ("Dutch Language Union").

The actual differences between the spoken standard language of Dutch and Belgian speakers are comparable to the differences between American and British English or the German spoken in Germany and Austria [...]

Is that true ?
