AMERICA'S SECOND biggest telecoms company has announced that it is switching to Ubuntu for its infrastructure.

AT&T, which has been around in its current form since 2005, has selected Canonical, the company behind the Ubuntu Linux operating system, "to be part of an effort to drive innovation in the network and cloud", beating rivals such as Microsoft Azure and IBM to the punch.

Heh, probably because of the price difference.  Also, it will be more secure than anything provided by MS.  I don't know how IBM compares in security.

Interesting... might make me grumble less about AT&T when our calls drop or never connect out here on the edge of civilization...  >:(

Nothing they can do will ever make me grumble less about AT&T.  Horrible rates.  Plus, they like to surprise you with all of the hidden fees and whatnot.  (also, don't believe their "free installation" claims)  Their Internet can't even begin to compare to cable.
