Crash/Freeze Pmint 3/Thinkpad T23

The Problem: Thinkpad T23 (No way of unplugging power) with Peppermint 3 went into a Screen freeze. Mouse and Keyboard no input allowed/non functional. 640 MB ram installed.

Prior to freeze:
1.Hooked up an old USB Keyboard and previously used successively USB optical mouse and monitor to T23.
2.Crated a new user, wife to access the internet.
3.While she was interacting with the browser (heard lots of typing in background noise), the freeze took place.
After the freeze:
4.Disconnected the USB Keyboard that did not have fn key and used the T23 keyboard.
5.Manage to unfreeze screen by trying combinations of fn or alt F2,3 forgot how I got a response to allow me to get back to rebooting via the terminal.I remember getting the terminal working and issuing a reboot command.
6.Did some research and the problem might be revealed in the: /var/log/syslog (suggested in a ubuntu forum): See partial attachment re titled error log.
7.As it stands right now, everything is normal, except I left the USB keyboard unplugged and wife will have to use the Thinkpad keyboard. As of this posting she has not used the computer.

Question:Anyone have any ideas what happened and how to fix the problem so it does not happen again?
Guesses are good provided they don't create another problem with the system.

My guesses as to what caused problem:
Keyboard match to system, wrong type of keyboard?
Typing or trying to do something while the spinning disk icon still was spinning?
New user just created--system too busy being established in background or other like system waiting to install updates?

Any comments/solutions regarding avoiding this problem again will be appreciated. Please no wife jokes!
Will send any other relevant information if needed.
Thank You,
Bob

I have no idea...

a) if you rebooted, the last syslog for the crashed session will have been renamed syslog.1
and
b) you posted the first half of syslog .. the end of it would have been better ;)
and
c) I would expect /var/log/dmesg (or dmesg.1 after a reboot) to hold more info if it's hardware related .. which it might not be .. but worth looking.

try it again, but use a different USB socket .. if it happens again, we'll try looking into it.

a) if you rebooted, the last syslog for the crashed session will have been renamed syslog.1 ---I believe this is the one included.

b) you posted the first half of syslog .. the end of it would have been better --- Done.

c) I would expect /var/log/dmesg (or dmesg.1 after a reboot) to hold more info if it's hardware related .. which it might not be .. but worth looking. --- Will check when/if problem appears again.

try it again, but use a different USB socket .. if it happens again, we'll try looking into it  ---Sounds like a good idea. Will do.
Thanks PCNetSpec for advice,

Can I ask how much RAM you have ?

The vesa or savagefb drivers are supposed to work, but I'm wondering if you're a borderline case with the frambebuffer driver and RAM in a Live environment.

Those 2 drivers are already part of the kernel so don't need installing

OK can we start again .. what exactly is the problem now ?

Is it just that the USB keyboard causes intermittent freezes ? .. but the PC is fine without he USB keyboard ?

Sincere apologies.
I am still trying to solve why Pmint 3 freezes and semi crashes. I am almost sure that this occurs mostly in the browser or when the browsers is minimized. With the browser in minimized state, could the freeze occur? If you don't think the freeze is caused by the chromium browser, please inform me. I will try to dig deeper and see if I can find someway of inducing the problem in order to ask an intelligent question. No sarcasm intended. My main aim is to use Pmint 3 without and major problems.
Hopefully, we can all  hang in there,
Bob

Well it "could" be caused by the browser .. specially if it's trying to cache data on the hard drive and the hard drive is either full or damaged.

How about installing Firefox and using that for a while and seeing if it help .. even if it's only to rule in/out chromium as the culprit.
