NM Aplet problem (SOLVED)
« on: December 26, 2015, 01:22:42 pm »
I wanted to connect via hard wire, so I went into NM applet and there was a radio knob to turn on hard wired connection, so I turned it on, I then turned off the wireless radio knob, cause i didn't want to be connecting to my router, i was trying to setup a friends router for him...  Once i turned off the wireless knob everything wireless disappeared in the nm applet by the clock, I have no knob to turn wireless back on, however now that I am done setting up my buddies router i turned off wired knob and that is still there in the nm applet...  in other words i can turn off and on hard wired, but i can not find out how to get my wireless back...  no knob everything disappeared...
does anyone know how to get wireless back?    :(

Make sure your wireless adapter is on, if it's a laptop try Fn+F2 or F6 or search for a hardware switch.

Does following command resolves the problem?
Code: [Select]
sudo rfkill unblock allIf not, restart the computer and see if it works?

If still not working, can I have the output from:
Code: [Select]
rfkill list

I thought about this last night while watching tv, and I wondered if maybe that toggle in NM applet had turned off my wifi on the laptop, and it did just that...
this morning i booted it and there was no wireless in NM app, and while NM app was showing on my screen I clicked FN and F2 and Voila the wireless toggle switch popped right back up on the screen, and i turned the switch to ON and all my neighbors and my own wireless connections popped up on the list, then it auto connected to mine like normal....    Thanks for the overnight advice however FN F2 did the trick on the old asus eeepc 1000he...  :)

I never would have thought that an applet toggle would actually turn off the on-board wifi card, that was weird if you ask me...  it didn't turn off the on-board lan, all it did when i toggled the lan off was the lan was disabled, and the toggle switch remained for the lan...  when i toggled off wireless though it went away, which had me thinking of the time i was working on my other mini dell, and when the drivers were not installed for the wireless yet i had the same NM applet screen that just showed the lan nothing more, then when i downloaded and installed wireless drivers it sprang to life and wireless appeared...  that is what got me to thinking maybe the wireless card either was turned off, or somehow lost its drivers and was no longer showing...   anyhoo like PCNetSPec said its the little things that end up baffling us and causing us to think it over...   ;)
