OK, to install the 3.19 kernel and updated xorg stack run thiis long command (make sure you get all of it):
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-lts-vivid xserver-xorg-core-lts-vivid xserver-xorg-lts-vivid xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-vivid xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-vivid libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-vivid
when it finishes, REBOOT.

Once rebooted, post the output from:
Code: [Select]
uname -a
and
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep 3.13.0

Thanks, can you also give me the instructions to reload the current or original Pep5  kernel. I think I'd like to try that first. Does that wipe out all my programs?  Since updates don''t, No?

adding a new kernel does NOT remove or change any "applications", nor does it remove the old kernel.

You can reinstall the 3.13.0-29 kernel by running:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-3.13.0-29 linux-headers-3.13.0-29-generic linux-image-3.13.0-29-generic
you'll then need to reboot, and choose the 3.13.0-29 kernel as the one to boot from the GRUB boot menu.

you can check if you correctly booted the 3.13.0-29 kernel with:
Code: [Select]
uname -a
if it works, we can always remove the newer kernels, making it the default
(or leave the newer kernels intact, but still make the old kernel the default kernel to boot)

Hi harrisk, how's it going?  When you post an output to the forum.  Could you please remember to encapsulate it with either the, # Insert Code function or the, Sp Spoiler function if it very long.  This preserves the original format of the output and makes it easier for future visitors to relate to.  These functions are found above the,  :-[ Embarrassed and  :'( Cry emoticon respectively in the forum editor.  I've done this for you this time - many thanks  ;).

Naw, 0-29 didn't work- in fact it was broken worse- the mouse didn't light up in any USB, and the network indicator disappeared.   Seems the disease has been slowly spreading- now most icons (including  buttons) don't display on programs. How about reinstalling ALL display features of PEP5, including the OpenGl program I got a warning on, in other words the Xorg that came with that originally, since it's mostly a display problem.  Mouse works fine on 0-73.

This may be a clue when I tried to open CLAM from Terminal: Maybe why 4-5 programs aren't open- it's also a display problem?

Couldn't recognize the image file format for file '/usr/share/pixmaps//clamtk.png' at /usr/share/perl5/ClamTk/GUI.pm line 37.

Nope, the clamtk thing appears to be a bug:

I'd suggest you try the newer graphics stack and kernel.

Well it's actually in advance of the Peppermint 6 ones, but I'm currently using it in Peppermint 6

See post #16 above.

In case my displays become almost unusable, can you please give me the instructions to get back to whatever Pep5 had? Or even Pep 3, since you said THAT worked with my display. Oh, one more thing, the Live Disc displayed things fine, so I presume what drivers were included were adequate.

New stuff didn't work at all- now its displaying at 640x480 and can't change it. In LXSession configuration/Core Aps A11Y shows no app; in /Settings what does DBUS GNOME checkbox do? And what happens if you chose LUBUNTU environment? I probably erased other kernals with apt-get clean cause didn't have space to do massive software update (950Mb- wanted another kernel).  How do I install the display stack for Pep4 or 3 ???

Were those instructions for 64 bit AMD, or could the Terminal figure that out? Cause the update seem to have some i486 items.

No, the instructions are architecture agnostic.. but if you're running 64bit it may download some i386 packages as 64bit Peppermint is multiarch

Okay were now at the point where you'd probably be better off just backing up your user data and installing Peppermint 3 from scatch
