Lxpanel causing issues with unstable transparency
« on: November 30, 2015, 03:43:36 am »
Hey all,
I am running Peppermint version 6 (the latest update). I configured the background on lxpanel (I changed it to a custom background), and upon completion of that change, the transparency for the panel icons (namely the 'end session' and 'Menu' buttons) did not work. I adjusted the panel height to 23 and the transparency suddenly worked. I adjusted it back to 22 and it still worked. I rebooted, and upon boot up it was back to being white instead of transparent. It's not an operational issue, purely aesthetic, but I would love a solution if somebody has one.

Thank you,
GreenRover
(Running an Acer Aspire E 15 Start)

Here's the output of that command:
Code: [Select]
.  ..  panel
and here are the global contents of the 'panel' file:
Code: [Select]
Global {
    edge=bottom
    allign=left
    margin=0
    widthtype=percent
    width=100
    height=22
    transparent=0
    tintcolor=#000000
    alpha=144
    autohide=1
    heightwhenhidden=2
    setdocktype=1
    setpartialstrut=1
    usefontcolor=1
    fontsize=10
    fontcolor=#ffffff
    usefontsize=0
    background=1
    backgroundfile=/usr/share/peppermint/images/GreenRover.png
    iconsize=22
    loglevel=2
}

Thanks,
GreenRover

The default menu button won't be transparent .. it's an image that contains the background coulour .. it's not transparent.

When making changes to the panel, some things don't change until you restart the panel:
Code: [Select]
lxpanelctl restart

And as AndyInMokum is alluding to .. be sure to only have ONE config file in:-
~/.config/lxpanel/Peppermint/panels
even a backup (.bak) file in that location is known to interfere with the panel sometimes

I am not using the default menu button, I'm using a custom one with transparent coloring. I do only have one config file in the ~/.config/lxpanel/Peppermint/panels folder. Also, the icon with transparent coloring becomes transparent after I adjust the size. Before adjusting the size, it remains white where there should be transparency. Maybe there's a problem with the alpha layer..?

maybe the button would fare better with resizing  if it were an svg ?
