What is it with shockwave flash? (SOLVED)
« on: May 11, 2014, 03:43:07 am »
My Chromium in pepermint 4 cannot load shockwave flash. I have tried the following:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

sudo apt-get install lubuntu-restricted-extras

and then removed and reinstalled the flashplayer with:

sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-installer

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer

I have then closed and reopened chromium but to no avail.
Under chromium plugins the only flashplayer plugin that is there is:

Adobe Flash Player - Version: 11.2 r202
Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202
Name:   Shockwave Flash
Version:   11.2 r202
Location:   /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so
Type:   NPAPI
     Disable
MIME types:
MIME type   Description   File extensions
application/x-shockwave-flash   Shockwave Flash
.swf
application/futuresplash   FutureSplash Player
.spl
Disable   Always allowed?

Kind regards,
Rens

What's the output (if any) from:
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep sse2

OK, the latest flashplayer required sse2 support from your CPU but 11.1 was quite happy to work without it.

So..

The following asssumes you're using the 32bit version of Peppermint .. if you're running 64bit, both times you see 32bit in a command, change it to 64bit

First uninstall the current flashplayer:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge flashplugin-installernow create a plugins directory in the right place:
Code: [Select]
mkdir -p ~/.mozilla/pluginscd into that directory:
Code: [Select]
cd ~/.mozilla/pluginsdownload the 11.1 version of flashplayer with:
Code: [Select]
wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11876059/flashplayer-11.1-32bit.tar.gzextract the archive
Code: [Select]
tar xvf flashplayer-11.1-32bit.tar.gznow close ALL web browser instances .. then reopen Chromium to test.  <--- It's important you close ALL web browser instances before reloading Chromium

@ damig

Yours should "just work" then .. if it's not, can you start a new topic please.
