 Hi GNULINUX,

I'm a big fan of Terminator I and Terminator 2.  GNULINUX, you did a great job here with a darker theme.  A+ ;)

Also your desktop is a great reminder to all of us here at Peppermint to take better care of our teeth.  Terminators have shown us, time and time again, that if you really want to get away with murder, you had better have a truly fantastic smile! ;D

I couldn't resist...  :D
Some eye-candy for when I have friends coming over to my house.

kwin with the Desktop Cube, Magic Lamp effect, Oxigen Window Decoration with White Borders and of course the Wobbly Windows!
I don't use it all the time but it's nice Linux offers me that choise!  ;)

I have to admit these bits of eye candy work really well for demonstration purposes.  Especially when you show them to Windows users or even better, an ultra smug and self satisfied Mac user.  The looks on their faces are absolutely priceless  ;D.   I wouldn't use them on my everyday machines though.  I'm too much of a Lightweight Linux die hard - strip it down and run it hard and fast  ;).

AndyInMokum:
Yeah, it's just eye-candy... nothing more!  ;)

EXTRA INFO for others who want to try this:

Search for "kwin" in Synaptic and install following packages:

Code: [Select]
kde-window-manager-common
kde-window-manager
kwin-style-qtcurve
kdeartwork-theme-window
qtcurve
kwin-style-crystal
kde-window-manager-active
There are more packages you can install but the above are safe and will not "break" anything!

You can start kwin by running:

Code: [Select]
kwin --replace
I've made a similar startup item that I can toggle on/of. A simple log of/on will give me the "look" I want...

To change the bottom and top image of the cube just replace:

Code: [Select]
/usr/share/kde4/apps/kwin/cubecap.png
Enjoy!  ;)

kwin .. Jeez I bet that brought a truck load of heavyweight KDE dependencies with it.

Wouldn't compiz have been a better idea ?

A truck load of lightweight KDE dependencies...  ;D
Serious now. It was not that bad since I had already some programs installed which needed KDE stuff.

Wouldn't compiz have been a better idea ?
I tried compiz but I got broken packages or Window Decorations missing...
Also it was far from bug-free on my system.

kwin was just easier to set up (for me) and runs totally bug-free on this machine.
I can't even say the system is slower with it...  :-\

Do not worry I'm not going to the KDE-side, I'm just enjoying the freedom of Linux.
Look at the bottom/top of the cube and you know Peppermint is here to stay!

Hey if it works for ya, it works right ;)

I'm just obsessive about keeping KDE stuff off my PC .. probably too much so .. it seems like you install one single teeny-tiny little KDE app and it drags in 90% of the whole KDE environment, immediately making your system heavier than if you'd just started with a KDE distro in the first place

Please keep developing Peppermint that way, I've chosen it above many others I tested, just because it was slim and ultra fast!

The fact that it is not preloaded with every piece of software one could find and every feature available on the net has given me (and others) the chance of building on top of such a slim, fast, beautiful and stable OS...

PCNetSpec, you are doing it right. I'm just that person with a machine that is too powerful for Peppermint...  :P

That is a $%&ing stupid price for that spec.

When I saw the price I was expecting things like 4 CPU's and PCIe SSD cards, etc .. not a single i7, consumer grade SSD, and off the shelf components  :o
