15% wireless connection Realtek RTL8187SE
« on: November 05, 2015, 06:53:55 pm »
Hello,

newbie here starting with Peppermint 6. Running on a Toshiba Satellite. Hoping to get some help on my Realtek wireless connection issue. My computer reports the connection at 15%. This seems quite slow to me, and am wondering what to do to correct this.

Code: [Select]
angel@angel-Satellite-L455D ~ $ lshw -C network

Looks like I am running the correct driver "rtl818x". Any other ideas on what could be the problem?

Thank you.

I have a feeling this is a bug in the driver:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83631
where the driver is just reporting a random connection speed .. because this hadn't been properly implemented in the driver.

Are you actually having connection issues ?

what is the output from:
Code: [Select]
iwconfig
and
Code: [Select]
iwlist scan

lo        Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth0      Interface doesn't support scanning.

From what I gather from the bug issue, those patches (?) temporarily resolve the issue, if I really have one. I may not.  I have connectivity, and it does not appear to be terribly slow (on a 7.6 Mbps DSL line), e.g. it is slower than my 22Mbps Cable line at home.

Looking forward to your assessment...

Thank you.

The router is within a few feet. The connectivity is rather slow that I can see.

Here is the output requested...

As an experiment, can you try changing wireless channel on your router from channel 1 to channel 6, then post the output from:
Code: [Select]
iwconfig
and
Code: [Select]
iwlist scan
again
