No more icons or wallpapers
« on: October 14, 2015, 12:40:37 am »
So I installed Cardapio per the instructions from the tutorials thread. It says P5 only but I tried on P6 and everything worked great.

I tried to use the run command, and I usually use Windows+R and it works. I tried that and lxpanel flashed and reappeared. I thought whatever, and tried again. All of a sudden all my wallpapers vanished, icons are now a circle with a line through it. Brought up the session to reboot. No icons there. Rebooted, login screen same as everything else.

Before it happened, lxpanel looked like the default lxpanel. And by that I mean what it looks like before Peppermint customized it, like it does in lubuntu.

I tried to take a screenshot, but at save screen it always fails.

OK I did an update and it restored everything. If I add default menu back, its the stock icon, which is fine as I use cardapio. I removed cardapio and Win+R still doesn't pull up run, it still causes lxpanel to crash. Not sure what the problem is here. Is there a reason the run command from the keyboard would cause lxpanel to crash?

OK I figured it out. It has nothing to do with Cardapio. If I remove menu from lxpanel, the run command stops working. It will cause lxpanel to flash. When I open peppermint control center, under keyboard shortcuts, there is an entry for lxpanelctl run. I think it has something to do with that. Is there a way to add run to keyboard shortcuts without it relying on menu?

Hi stew1411, what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.config/lxpanel/Peppermint/panels
;)?

No because "lxpanelctl run" is part of the menu plugin.

you could always have an icon image for the menu that was a single pixel wide

or use something like Synapse instead

Thanks for the replies. To make things easier I just removed Cardapio and started using the old school menu again. You can use the run command from cardapio, just type the run command you want to use in the search bar, and on the right side where search results appear, click the command. I can't remember if you type run before the command, but cardapio is able to execute commands.

I removed it because it doesn't run on startup, and when adding it to autostart, cardapio automatically opens in the center of the screen on boot. I didn't like that.
