So unless this man has some extreme, unanticipated, ghastly misfortune in life (which unfortunately can happen to anyone, rich or poor alike),

Have you not noticed the way rich people like the idea of "leaving a legacy" .......

I often notice users like Yahoo, Google, Google Adsense, Baidu etc at the bottom of the forums. Are they monitoring these forums?

Well, since the forum has "targeted" ads, they're probably scoping the forums to see what people here are talking about to provide a "better ad experience," or something like that.  You see bots like those on any forum with ads and even some without.  Aside from what I mentioned, I'm not really sure what their function is.

Yes, I have.  I know of a guy who lives at the White House who's busy trying to create a good legacy for himself right now.  I liked it when he created the idea of a "Beer Summit."  I guess that's a good start!  ;)

They are search engine spiders, basically they continually crawl the interweb, jumping from link to link looking for new content to index for their search engines.

All webpages will eventually get crawled/indexed unless you block them with the "robots" & "googlebot" meta tags
Code: [Select]
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">
<meta name="googlebot" content="noindex, nofollow">
or block the whole site with something like this in your "robots.txt" file:
Code: [Select]
User-agent: *<br/>
Disallow: /
or sections of a website with something like:
Code: [Select]
User-agent: * <br/>
Disallow: /directory-not-to-index/
or use some other method .. but then you'd not get listed in Google/Yahoo/Bing/etc.

But those search engine spiders and Adsense bots are actually helping a site get popular and make money, right?

If one were to re-spin PeppermintOS, a fun spin would be a puplet called Peppermint Puppy Linux!

Hi jimdunn, I forgot to welcome you to Club Peppermint, so welcome  ;).  I think you'll find us a friendly bunch  ;D.  Making and maintaining  an Arch based Peppermint, I really don't see why we should do that  :-\.  More to the point, what would the Peppermint project gain from doing it?  The Peppermint philosophy it to keep things simple.  As good as Arch is, I think it would really complicate the Peppermint mission.  I don't care what anyone says, Arch based distros are always going to be unstable in comparison to other distros.  It's Arch, that's the way it's meant to work.  Trying to keep it as stable as possible for the end user would entail a huge amount of work from the developer's perspective.  The problem with any Arch based distro for the user is, you have to watch it like a hawk.  If you're not willing to do that, you'll end up in a whole world of grief in a hurry.  This is not what Peppermint is all about.  Using the Ubuntu code base works for us.  Peppermint is attractive to both newbies who wants to experiment and for the seasoned user, who wants to work with cutting edge software in a stable environment.   So no, I'd not like to see an Arch version of Peppermint for the simple reason.  I can't see the point of doing it  :-\!!

The way I see it, Peppermint uses the best components of the Linux world. Ubuntu repositories, LXDE desktop environment , XFCE window manager and Linux Mint software center and updater :)
