« on: October 02, 2015, 12:35:37 am »
I want to know about any apps which allows me to takes backup of my given below things:-

1. Update and upgrade
2. All install apps and their settings
3. Shortcut keys
4. Desktop Customization
5. Install printer and scanner etc.

So I want to install any new laptop in my office I donít waste so much of time to do the same steps again. Only I install Linux on Laptop and restore this backup and Laptop will become the same as I want. Or Any apps which allow me to take snap short of my laptop and make Customized Live-CD the way I want with my all above points. This will make computer engineer work easy and fast so they can do installation on bulk of Laptop and Desktop in production environments. Any Laptop and Desktop crashed it will easy to recover quickly. I request you please advices and share your experience or best practices in Linux world for this case.

Hi rajeev2631007,

If I understand correctly what it is you want to do, then I think that a simple solution would be to try using a HDD cloning/imaging tool like Clonezilla.

Personally I'd set up one machine the way you want it but WITHOUT any proprietary drivers installed.

then use Redo Backup & Recovery
http://redobackup.org/download.php
(it's immensely easy to use, and this is the ideal situation for its use)

to take an image of that machines hard drive and store it say on an eternal HDD or network drive

Then for each new machine just boot the Redo LiveCD and restore the image to their hard drive .. the only thing you'd then need to do is install proprietary drivers if necessary.

The reason I said to leave out proprietary drivers is - Unlike Windows Linux is happy to be moved to another PC with different hardware, it will just automagically reconfigure itself, but this does NOT apply to things like proprietary graphics drivers, so leave them out of the image (they'll need to be installed afterwards.

Thanks your Slim.Fatz and PCNetSpec for your sharing.

I found one app Aptik, it is a new tool to simplify re-installation of packages after doing a clean installation of an Ubuntu-based distribution. It can be used while re-installing or upgrading to the next Linux release. We can restore backups after Installing the new system using Aptik backup. I don't  understand why this is not pre- install on  Linux distro.

Install Aptik with the following commands:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:teejee2008/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install aptik

I don't  understand why this is not pre- install on  Linux distro.

So you can choose to install it or not  ;) Personally, I would not want this package on my system because I use "dd" (not recommended for new users) for my disk cloning needs.

This is what makes linux so personal to the user using the distro. Unlike windose or app-all, (who don't want you to customize your (technically their) OS to better suit your needs, and increase work flow, but instead want you to fork over your hard earned money to learn their neglected software  ::)

Its your operating system, make it yours  ;)
