Adobe Digital Editions [Solved]
« on: September 15, 2015, 09:51:19 pm »
Hi, everyone,

I'm trying to install Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) through Wine.

I have installed Wine from Software Manager; and have been able to install and use Notepad++ through Wine.

I have installed ADE; the installation didn't appear to have any issues. However the .exe does not launch.

What can I try next? I understand this might be a tricky problem.

Btw, I can't use any other software since I have textbook which can only be read with with ADE.

Thanks in advance,

What version of ADE are you trying to install? If memory serves, newer versions do not work. The last time I installed ADE under Wine, I installed version 1.72, which did work. Apparently version 4.0 should install as per the instructions for Ubuntu listed part way down the page here: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=30928 although I have not tried it. Good luck.

EDIT: After taking another look, it appears Ubuntu has a newer version of Wine than does Peppermint. You may be able to add the Ubuntu repository and install the newer version of Wine, although I don't think adding non-Peppermint repositories is generally recommended.

HI Candy Cane

If all else fails you could try Crossover and see if it will work with that, Crossover is a commercial product built on Wine but you can download a trial version for free to see if it will work

From my own experience I know of at least one program that wont run in Wine but run no problem in Crossover

Good luck
