(SOLVED) Install Printer with T23 ,Pmint 3
« on: April 15, 2014, 11:59:49 pm »
Computer: Thinkpad T23
Printer:  Brother HL 2270DW as describe in Brothers Quick Set Up Guide. The actual label on the printer says that it is mod.HL 22 ? Might be a general family of printers of which 2270 is a member?

Would like to:
Connected/configured my printer within peppermint 3 from a lan wired router with printer connected through the same router.

One of the clearest instructions/ (but too advanced for me) references I could find was:
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1200
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/194

Note: This T23 is Lan wired to the same router that this printer is connected to.
I have a (bloat ware) Brother installation disk that is designed for Windows and Mac installation.I would like to stay     away from this disk hairball.

Hope the above will help.

Thank You,
Bob

Hi Bob

You may need an extra driver package for that printer so open synaptic package manager and look for brother-cups wrapper-laser and install it
or open terminal type the following

if this is a wireless printer is it already connected to the network ?

if so open the terminal and type

sudo apt-get install brother-cups-wrapper-laser, then system-config-printer

The "Add Printer" dialogue box should open select "Add +" another box will open up if your see you printer listed click on it and select "> Forward"
the next box should show a list of manufacturers, select Brother then > Forward, when the next box opens look for your printer model select it then
"> Forward again and hopefully your printers installed and ask you if you want to do a test print select "Yes to test.

If you don't see your printer listed in Add Printer dialogue Box stop and post back here

Good luck

Graeme

If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs then you're not quite grasping the situation

Hi Graeme or any guru who wants to help out? (feel free),

I have a wireless* capability, however, I am connected thru a wired Lan to a at&t router which is inturn, has the Brother 2270DW connected to the same at&t router (home network).

1)From terminal:

Code: [Select]
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
bob@bob-laptop ~ $ sudo apt-get install brother-cups-wrapper-laser,
[sudo] password for bob:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package brother-cups-wrapper-laser,
bob@bob-laptop ~ $ system-config-printer

From your instructions:"If you don't see your printer listed in Add Printer dialogue Box stop and post back here"
I don't see my printer listed?  (**for attached screenshot) ---No HL 22xx series (relative new Brother printer).

Bob

Hi, PCNetSpec.

From code input:
code:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
uname -a
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My terminal code output:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Code: [Select]
bob@bob-laptop ~ $ uname -a
Linux bob-laptop 3.2.0-60-generic #91-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 19 03:55:18 UTC 2014 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been trying to work this out myself from the little I think I know. I have contacted the Brother web site  (http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hl2270dw_all&os=128 ) and talked to Brother and they did have a download file for:
cupswrapperHL2270DW-2.0.4-2.i386.deb . Not sure if this was correct package to choose.

I down loaded the file, which was auto sent from Chromium to:  /home/bob/Downloads/cupswrapperHL2270DW-2.0.4-2.i386.deb (suspected this was the correct one,but if not, easy enough to delete from my download files in /home/bob/Downloads/ ?) and at this point the automatic helper script came up. I tried to direct the automatic helper to load but I think failed to do so. I could tell by trying to print a doc and it will only let me print to file. I have not tried to enter any terminal commands to download the cupswrapperHL2270DW-2.0.4-2.i386.deb  into the proper place.
So, present situation is :
I have the correct ? cupswrapperHL2270DW-2.0.4-2.i386.deb stored/download file(s) in: /home/bob/Downloads/  .
I apologize, if I created a whole new problem.

Any suggestions ?

Thank You,
Bob

Just an update on Subject. I think I solved the above problem. In a nutshell, I looked into my other computer which has Mint 16. I could print using the setup which was professionally installed. I found that it used the Brother, at least I think it does*, HL 2070N drivers along with the Brother HL 2270DW drivers alongside. I then decided to download the HL 2070N driver to approximate the same condition via the GUI interface. I can print via wired and wireless from Peppermint 3 with no problems. I will mark this problem (SOLVED).
Bob

*The HL 2270DW driver probably is non functioning and taking up disk space. I would like to start a new topic regarding this subject if anyone thinks it might be worth-wild? Feel free to reply if interested. Naturally, you may also ask me how I accomplished the solution in detail and I could give you a little more information.
