Trying to install
« on: September 11, 2015, 12:31:44 pm »
Hello all I'm new to the Linux world and trying to resurrect a 1201HAB  EeePc that's running the stock winxp os... It still has the hidden recovery partition as well which I would like to keep for now and be able to do a dual boot or use the flash drive or usb to live boot with peppermint 6 or at least keep the recovery partition in tact so it can always be optioned back to factory specs.

So I made both the 32 and 64 bit imgs of peppermint 6 on usb sticks and rebooted selecting usb and on both I get the following screen...

Any help would be welcome in getting off in the right direction here

Thank you

When does that screen occur ?

when at that screen are you able to hit Ctrl+Alt+F2 and end up at a text console ?

It happens as soon as I select to boot from the usb drive with the peppermint 6 install on it  and I am not able to get to a text console.

Are you certain the computer can boot from those sticks?  Since it happens right after you try to boot it, that could be the problem.

Also, how did you go about putting Peppermint onto the sticks?  That may be a factor as well.

This has a GMA500 Poulsbo graphic adapter .. one of the worst supported in Linux.

That said I can find no reports of the Ubuntu 14.04 LiveCD not booting, so to rule in/out the updated kernel/xorg in Peppermint 6 can you try a Peppermint 5 LiveUSB ?

or search the web for torrents.

I have used both sticks with no problem for win7 and win10 installs so I know they will work, I reformatted them from ntfs to fat and used unetbootin to install the peppermint images onto them.

Yep, that all sounds fine.  I was just ruling that out.
