Try the

irqpoll

kernel boot parameter.

The IRQPOLL boot parameter also results in kernel panic and a reboot after 30 seconds ....  :'(

I tried Linux Mint 13. It boots into a black screen, but than with Ctrl+Alt+F2 in can get a terminal ....

Now I read this.

If I can get Linux Mint to work, why wouldn't it be possible to get Peppermint to work?

What do you think?

With kind regards,

IIRC Mint 13 is based on Ubuntu 12.04 so uses an earlier kernel .. the same one as Peppermint 3

Sounds to me like his processor is non PAE...
I have this same problem on my daughter away laptop that she leaves at grandmas house...
Mint 13 is the same as pep 3 they both use 12.04 kernel...
I just re did my daughters machine and i put on LXLE they still have a version using 12.04 kernel that they are keeping updated, for how long I do not know, but if that boots you have your answer....   ;)

The Intel Atom Z520 does have the pae flags .. so it's not a PAE problem (or it shouldn't be).

it sure sounds like it is though, don't it?
he says when he boots the 12.04 kernel there is no issues?
it is a weird issue, and the main reason I am watching this thread, is I have 2 asus netbooks but mine are not having this problem, I have the atom processor also but mine are the atom N280 I believe they are both the 1660mhz ones....
my asus's are both eee1000 HE models...

It does, but I'm thinking it's some kind of kernel (or possibly xorg) regression
