Asus EEEPC 1101 HA
« on: September 03, 2015, 04:26:20 pm »
I do have a Asus EEE Pc 1101 HA on which I try to install PM6.

Although I do get the PM boot screen (Try PM6 Live) it never finishes booting. The screen 'hangs' for ever somewhere near 90%, but never finishes booting.

I read a lot of information about troubles with these netbooks, but they all assume there is a black screen from which one can open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F2. But in this case there never comes a black screen.

Anybody any suggestions?

With kind regards,

Have you tried removing "quiet splash" from the kernel boot line so you can see the boot process and tried to discover what the last thing was that happened before the boot stalls ?

No, PCNetSpec, I did not ...

It stops at "Setting up X socket directories"

A few posts on the Ubuntu forum suggests 14.04 should work on that netbook .. but that was with the 3.13 kernel.

Any chance you can try a Peppermint 5 LiveUSB .. just to see if it's a kernel regression.

With PM5 it has the same troubles. After a while I get "Setting up X socket directories"; than some lines with ERROR codes; and than a message it will reboot in 30 seconds.

Can we have the "error codes" you mentioned please.

Have you tried the "nomodeset" kernel boot parameter ?

I have tried the "nomodeset" boot parameter. It changed the situation in so far that it will almost finish the "live"installtion proces, but not completely.

Hence with the "Setting up X socket directories" message it stops somewhere at 70%; with the "nomodeset" parameter it stops somewhere at 98%.

I will get you the error codes as soon as I am home  ;)

Thank you,

I tried to collect some error codes. It turned out that the installtion process never stops at the same moment, and the boot process generates countless error codes. Not sure whether this is worth the effort.

You migth want to try the

acpi=off

kernel boot parameter, to see if it boots.

With the acpi=off option the boot process stops at "Setting sensors limits" and it never finishes.

I doubt if this will help, but maybe try the respin which will have a different kernel

It is a 32 bit machine. The respin is 64 bit only, isn't it?

NO .. there's a 32bit respin too .. it has everything the 64bit version has except for the UEFI support (which requires 64bit).

Just go to the main site and download the 32bit version .. all links on the main website now point to the respin (as do the torrents).

The respin ends with "94.288030 end kernel panic - not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt"
