Update error - duplicate sources (solved)
« on: April 26, 2014, 05:02:47 am »
Hi guys!

I've just installed Peppermint 4 and I'm having some issues with getting updates. The terminal tells me that I have several duplicate sources and that I should run
Code: [Select]
apt-get update to fix the problems. I get this message after having run
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update. Is there any way to resolve this?

Here is the http://pastebin.com/yywZwLYS with the results of having entered
Code: [Select]
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.

You might notice that I'm getting updates from Korean servers and perhaps that's a problem, although I'm not sure. I'm currently in South Korea but will be returning to the USA next week so I am more than happy to change servers in the meantime.

Thanks in advance!

Open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.listwhen the file opens, scroll to the bottom and change the LAST line from:-
Code: [Select]
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring-security multiverse universe main restrictedto
Code: [Select]
# deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring-security multiverse universe main restrictedSAVE the file, and close gedit.

Back in the terminal, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get updatehave the errors disappeared ?

BTW, there's no longer a need to use pastebin for long output .. in fact doing so is a pain for both you, and anyone following the topic ;)

just use the "spoiler" tags to surround long output.

^^ Perfect! Thank you for the instruction. Apologies for using pastebin. I'm a recent crossover from the peppermintos.net forums. I'd seen a similar thread over there but could not duplicate the instructions within to solve the problem. Cheers!

Yeah we've decided it's better to keep everything all together on the forum with this one .. but use spoiler tags to hide long text until someone clicks the spoiler bar to keep things neat

Like this:
Spoiler (click here to view / hide)
[close]

Just highlight what you want in the spoiler, and click the [Sp] button.

Anyway, you're more than welcome, and thanks for marking the topic solved
